THE EDUCATOR BEHIND THE BRITISH CHERRY

Meet Maria.

Maria K. Termentzòglou is an English educator, educational author and interdisciplinary researcher based in Edessa, Greece. With more than a decade of teaching experience, she specialises in English for Specific Purposes, examination preparation and learning materials that connect language with everyday life and professional communication.

Her work begins with a practical question: What can learners actually do with the English they learn? This question shapes her teaching and writing—from professional dialogues and industry-specific vocabulary to the reading, speaking and creative tasks at the heart of The British Cherry.

Academic foundations

Maria is a PhD candidate in the Department of Forestry, Wood Science and Design at the University of Thessaly. Her interdisciplinary research examines environmental learning, knowledge transformation and organisational adaptability, connecting educational processes with organisational learning and strategic management.

Her academic background includes Applied Linguistics and Intercultural Communication, Greek Philology, Educational Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Law and Policy of IT and Telecommunications.

These fields bring complementary perspectives to her educational work: how language creates meaning, how learning is organised, and how knowledge becomes useful beyond the classroom. Her doctoral research is distinct from English-language pedagogy; it forms part of her broader commitment to understanding learning and change.

Teaching, leadership and educational writing

Maria founded Termentzoglou Online English School and has worked as Head of Education and Academic Consultant at Xenoglotia. Her experience encompasses online instruction, personalised learning, teacher guidance, student evaluation and educational-content development.

Alongside teaching, she has authored specialist resources covering professional contexts including hospitality, European taxation and digital marketing. She has also contributed to academic publications, including work published by Springer.

Why she created The British Cherry

The British Cherry grew from Maria’s desire to give Greek teenagers a more connected experience of English: clear explanations, meaningful vocabulary and frequent opportunities to speak, write, question and create.

Designed to bring C and D Senior material together and support progression towards B2 preparation, the series combines thematic reading, grammar explanations, vocabulary development, writing practice, role-play and discussion. Its Dutch-inspired approach encourages learners to encounter and use English beyond the lesson.
